Description

He is a near mint example of the elusive SAR-D watch made by Marathon Watch Company.  The SAR-D was a small run (less than 200) of the original SARs that were made with a mistake on the dial.  During the production run, a mistake was made on the dials. These watches are Maraglo (Luminova); however, they were inadvertently marked with an “H3” and nuclear symbol, designating them as tritium-lumed.  The error probably occured at the factory because the Triium Tubed GSAR model had just been introduced in Marathon Watch Company’s product line.  Somebody probably forgot to remove the H3 and Rad symbol when they ordered dials to finish one of the last batches of SAR models produced.  Because of the misprint, the watches could not be supplied to the US Government which was the end user.  The watches were sold directly to collectors through Windy City Watch and broadarrow.net.

This version with the incorrect dial are much more uncommon than the other models (<200 pieces in total)

This Stainless steel SAR-D from 2006 run is in near mint condition and appears to have been well cared for.  It is a 300M Diver model, with an original black “D” dial with Maraglo (Superluminova) hands and hour markers. It is powered by a Swiss ETA 2824-2 automatic movement with Incabloc shock protection. The sapphire crystal is also in near mint condition with the original production date magnifier or cyclops lens. The unidirectional 60 minutes black bezel rotates with 120 clicks.  Case diameter is 41 mm without crown and is 13 mm thick. The magnified date at 3 is easily visible when the watch is worn at arm’s length. The watch is rated for water resistance to 300 meters/1000 feet but has not been tested by us.  If the watch will be used for water activities, we’d recommend having it pressure tested by a competent watchmaker and annually thereafter as is considered good practice.   The screw-down crown works as it should.   The watch comes on an original stainless steel bracelet with a deployment clasp, diver extension,  US Seal clasp, and safety lock.  t is currently sized to 7.25-inch wrist.  No extra links are included but we can add extra links for $20/ea. if necessary.  Complete with correct Marathon box.

Watch is in mint condition with no scratches, nicks or dings.  This is a really nice example of a scarce military watch anomaly.
