Description

US Navy Bu. Ships Canteen Watch (Homage): High-quality re-issue of the watch worn by UDT Navy personnel that led the way on D-day and in Korea! This is a NEW re-issue, paying homage to the 1940’s/50’s style Canteen wristwatch of the finest quality. It includes box with papers.  US Navy Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT) were the predecessors to the current Sea Air Land (SEAL).  Of course, SEAL Team 6 is famous for taking out public enemy #1.

The watch has a heavy stainless steel case with a screw-on back and crown cover. The case back reads: “U.S.N. BU Ships” and the dial reads: “U.S.N BU Ships” in raised black letters. Made by Basel Design, a division of ZENO-USA. This watch also features a hardened acrylic crystal and is water-resistant to 3ATM. This watch possesses a reliable and durable jeweled ISA-1148 Japan Made Quartz Movement (battery included). The luminous blued steel hands have a large diameter of 36mm and a height of 13mm. The band is made from strong khaki cotton that measures 18 mm in width.

The US Navy Bu. Ships Canteen Watch is like the United States Navy military canteen-style watch that was developed during WWII.  It has a very sharp and clear dial with large Arabic numbers.  It is nearly identical in look and feel to the Navy SEAL or UDT watch produced by Hamilton and Elgin during World War II and the Korean War  – except it is new and has been enlarged to a size more in keeping with modern watches. It has a reliable jeweled quartz movement in it  – unlike the original mechanical version which now sells for over $1500!.

It is great to wear as an everyday timekeeper but be warned, you’ll have a lot of curious looks with compliments and questions about what the crown guard is. The fit and finish of this watch is as good if not better than the original watches made in the 40s and 50s.
